When Trafficking Tried to Silence Her Family, She Chose to Fight Back.

Raising Voices. Restoring Dignity. Rewriting the Narrative on Human Trafficking.

Human trafficking is often discussed as a distant, global crisis—something happening “out there,” to strangers, in far-off places.
But that illusion shattered the day my own daughter became a victim. I learned, in the most devastating way, that trafficking is not just happening around us. It is happening to us—our families, our children, our communities.

And the truth is even more sobering:
More than 62% of sex-trafficking victims are women of color.
Human trafficking generates more than $150 billion every year.
And yet, families like mine—families hit by the unthinkable—are often silenced, shamed, or left to navigate unimaginable pain alone. I refuse to let that happen.

Deondriea Never Expected Her Daughter’s Story to Become Her Mission—But That’s Exactly What Happened

Human trafficking is not a movie plot or a distant horror. It’s not always violent. And it rarely looks like the myths people believe.

Trafficking hides in plain sight — in schools, online platforms, neighborhoods, friend groups, and everyday conversations. It preys on trust, loneliness, vulnerability, and silence.

Deondriea knows this because her family lived it.
She watched grooming unfold right in front of them — quiet, manipulative, disguised as care. And when the truth surfaced, she made a decision:

“If my family’s story can save another child, another mother, another life — I will not be silent.”

Today, she is one of the most powerful voices helping families, educators, community leaders, and organizations understand what trafficking actually looks like, how grooming works, and how prevention can happen before danger hits home.

Today, through Unmute the Silence—the organization she founded to raise awareness about human trafficking and as a board member of New Friends New Life, Deondriea fights to bring truth, prevention, and protection to the forefront.

She Speaks What Others Whisper—So Your Family Doesn’t Become a Story No One Saw Coming

Human doesn’t always look like kidnapping. It often starts quietly—with grooming, vulnerability, relational manipulation, or emotional exploitation. Most families don’t recognize the danger until it’s too late. Deondriea helps change that. Trafficking rarely looks like what people imagine. It’s often disguised as friendship, romance, opportunity, attention, or “help.” And grooming? It’s subtle. It’s strategic. It’s terrifyingly easy to miss—even for the most attentive parents. Deondriea helps families recognize the signs she wishes she had seen sooner. Her message is raw, real, and necessary: Traffickers manipulate. Families love. Education protects. Silence harms. Her voice gives parents the tools they need before danger becomes reality.

She Tells the Story Too Many Parents Never Imagine Becoming Their Own

When Deondriea speaks, she speaks as a mother. A witness. A protector. And an advocate determined to break the cycle of silence that leaves victims vulnerable.

Trafficking thrives in silence. It grows in the shadows—where disbelief, denial, and stigma create the perfect conditions for exploitation. But when you shine a light on the truth, everything changes. When communities understand the grooming process, people become safer. When families recognize the early signs, predators lose access. When survivors feel seen and supported, healing becomes possible. When society stops blaming victims, justice stops slipping through the cracks.

Every time she share's her daughter’s story, she disrupts the lie that trafficking is rare, distant, or inevitable. And, strengthen a chain of protection. Her talks are honest. They are emotional. They are actionable. And they change the narrative of how people see trafficking forever.
